I hadn't expected the silence. The redwoods swallow sound the way they swallow light. I parked the van along a narrow forest road for nine days and walked the same trail each morning, watching the beams shift a few feet west as the season moved. These photographs are about patience more than anything — waiting for the forest to let you see it.
